This is the type of peripheral nonsense-type political story that annoys me.
The wife of Congressman Kucinich, Elizabeth is a self-promoting pseudo celebrity and the media loves to pander to this - which only encourages her.
This actually detracts from the Congressman's real purpose- his left wing liberalism - and his wife should reinforce his political stance, not promote her own trivia pursuits.
However, I do have sympathy for the congressman who finds it difficult to get serious press coverage... there's no such thing as bad publicity?
Only when it trivialises the politician's real agenda.

Hi Anita,
I do agree with you that some coverage of the political figures or there family members, as in this case of Elizabeth, blurs the line of news and gossip.
I know from my experience traveling abroad and from what you have explained to me New Zealand's parliamentary system that our individualistic, winner-takes-all the booty Presidential system is laced in the same irony that is prevalent by our celebrity-driven culture that predominates western society.
I don't think Kucinich's very left-leaning views is that much far off from Obama, who is considered the most liberal Senator with regards to his voting record.
Though I do think one of the reasons why Dennis Kucinich and the others did not make it to the final round as John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama did because well, I hate to admit this, but the rest just were not packaged for appopriately for prime-time no matter who in Hollywood was their make-up artist. One cannot deny the international "rock star" power of Mr. Obama, Ms. Clinton's melodramatic and theatrical performances that captivated her fans and foes, and not to mention John Edwards's "handsome" looks and unequivocal southern charm.
Oh yeah, I personally am enchanted by the Nancy Pelosi bouffant hairdo, make-over mannerisms, and especially her unparalleled, signature walk.
I think many Americans are captivated by the abundance of star-strudded characters within the Democratic party that is winning the hearts and mind of Americans.
I remember in 2000, the media glamorized Republicans like Florida sizzlin' hotties George P. Bush (Bush's Latino nephew) and Kathleen Harris.
But in 2008, it seems the media glitz and spectacle and sensation is in blue territory, not red ones. I think if Kucinich wants to attract more fame for his left-leaning causes then he needs to revamp this image and make himself more sexually appealing.
Thanks again for sharing the link to the article for your comments.

Excellent viewpoints.
I also feel sympathy for people who find it difficult to get serios press coverage, and I totally agree with your viewpoints that we should not focus on bad publicitiy, and we should focus on their professional performances.
